My Journey in Healthcare: Over 29 Years of Service

My career in healthcare began over 29 years ago when I first stepped into the role of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). From the start, I found deep meaning in the work, helping people with everyday tasks like bathing, dressing, and feeding, but also being there for them in their most vulnerable moments. Whether it was taking vital signs or simply offering a comforting presence, I learned early on that the smallest actions can make a world of difference in someone’s life. Each patient I worked with had their own story, and being part of their care was a privilege I never took lightly.

The next step in my journey took me to the role of Lead Nursing Assistant. Here, I was able to mentor and guide other nursing assistants, ensuring they felt supported and confident in their roles. I worked closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to create a cohesive care environment where patient safety and well-being were always the top priorities. In this position. I saw the power of teamwork and how essential collaboration is in providing top-notch care.

As my skills grew, so did my responsibilities. I transitioned into the role of Staffing Coordinator, a challenging but fulfilling position where I was responsible for making sure the right people were in the right places to provide excellent care. Balancing schedules, filling shifts, and managing last-minute staffing needs became second nature. It was a role that required not. just organization but empathy-understanding both the needs of the staff and the patients, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

I was then given the opportunity to serve as a Group Home Supervisor, where I managed the daily operations of homes for individuals with disabilities. This was a deeply rewarding experience. I was responsible not only for the residents’ physical well-being but also their emotional and mental health. Collaborating with healthcare providers, I developed care plans tailored to each resident’s needs, ensuring they received the attention and dignity they deserved. Supervising a team in this setting was an incredible learning experience in leadership, and it solidified my commitment to advocating for those who might not be able to do so themselves.

Finally, I found myself in the role of Health Unit Coordinator, a position that required me to manage the administrative side of patient care. From admissions and discharges to ensuring accurate patient records, I became the bridge between patients, their families, and the medical staff. I took pride in creating a smooth, efficient flow in the unit, knowing that behind every piece of paperwork was a person relying on us to make their healthcare experience as seamless as possible.
